An incredibly shy and secretive bird the Bullfinch is resident all year round at Wellington. It feeds on the buds from trees and in particular fruit trees, as well as eating seeds and fruit. It has a powerful bill to break open seed pods. The male is bright red in colour with contrasting black which often make it easy for birds of prey to see. They can be seen, if quiet and patient, near The Legacy garden, Mordaunt Drive and along Farm Lane.
